Recently my daughter had an allergic reaction to nuts. We whisked her off to the Stollery Childrens Hospital where she was immediately attended to. All the nurses and doctors were great. I appreciated their urgency and that we did not have to wait long, as my daughters skin was on fire from the reaction.
An epi-pen was prescribed by the doctor at the Stollery and asked us to follow up with her pediatrician.
We proceeded to book a telephone appointment with her pediatrician. We did not have to wait long for the appointment. We were able to get the appointment in within a week, which was okay to us since we already had a plan in place.
Although our other daughter has a nut allergy, this reaction from our younger daughter came out of left field as we had exposed her to nuts before with no reaction. We had a phone appointment with her pediatrician and it was pretty short. I wish our pediatrician matched my sense of urgency and took a little more time. But they did go over a plan, and put in a referral to an allergy specialist to be further tested.
It has been several months, and we are still waiting for a call from the allergy specialist to book an appointment.
